Reflections After 6 Weeks of 13-Week SAT Prep: Insights and Experiences
Starting with math, the class taught me to think logically instead of just jumping into formulas. In English, learning the different strategies and understanding all the domains and skills was really helpful. These tips and tricks won’t only help me on the SAT but also in other academic areas.
In math, I’ve learned different ways to solve problems that make solving them easier (e.g., mixture problems). In English, I learned reading strategies that were helpful (e.g., going for the shortest answer first) and grammar rules I was unaware of (e.g., dangling modifiers).
Other than the strategies and time management improvements from the class, I feel as if I’ve grown as a person. I’m not as lazy as before, as I realize that each problem is around 20 points off my score. I don’t have the room to make mistakes; I have to be efficient.
I think that I was able to solidify my concepts really well and make sure everything was polished. But on top of this, I realized that the SAT is mostly about being able to identify what the question is asking rather than performing the operations themselves, and I got much better at being able to identify what kind of thing the SAT tests and being able to solve the questions based on that. On top of this, I knew what kind of information I had to retain from the English passages and I also knew what order to read them in, and I was able to work much more efficiently in this section.
In math: I’ve gotten much better at recognizing patterns in questions, and I know how to do certain types of questions much quicker than before In reading: I’m better able to understand what the questions are asking for and how to eliminate wrong choices and how to use my better judgment to decide what the proper answer is In writing: I’ve learned the necessary grammar rules I need for the SAT and I’ve learned how to determine what type of question I’m answering (conciseness, transition, etc) as well as the proper strategy to determine the best possible answer choice
Taking SAT prep at Rising Future offered me different perspectives and better approaches to both Math questions and Reading/Writing questions. The class was highly engaging and collaborative, allowing me to approach each problem differently and often from the perspectives of my classmates. I was able to discover everyone’s study methods and work ethics, which motivated me to improve mine. I also got to know everyone’s interests in terms of books, which will help me expand my reading skills and improve on the SAT reading section.
The past six weeks helped me establish a routine and understand the concepts behind math topics.
It has been a roller coaster over the past six weeks. I have had some ups and downs, but I’ve been able to achieve a great understanding of the topics. I struggled with additional topics like geometry, but some simple concepts that I thought I had a grasp on, I didn’t. However, through these six weeks, I’ve been able to understand concepts and get through more advanced problems in math, while in English, I’m able to understand the stories better.
The prep reinforced my problem-solving skills, and it helped me answer complex problems using a few preliminary concepts. I also learned how to effectively annotate and view passages, and I have learned a new way of reading and understanding them.
It was quite arduous. However, I believe the immense amount of work we had to complete helped perfect every facet of the SAT.
I can say that I improved a lot based on all the work in the past six weeks. For math, I had a review of many things that I had forgotten, like geometry and a lot of other algebra concepts. For English, I understood the grammar and reading techniques better. My score has gone up a lot since the start of the practice.
In the first few weeks, I found it difficult to complete all the work and assignments on time more than I had difficulty with the actual content. Later on, my time management improved, and it also helped me finish the test faster as well.
It definitely helped improve my score and gave me a complete review of most of the math and English essentials that I learned a long time ago and forgot.
It has been a very nice experience. I have learned many problem-solving skills that have helped me in so many areas of life.
These past six weeks have definitely improved my ability to take long tests, and I am able to analyze questions faster. I need to improve on grammar and math, and over the next month, I will work on that.
My reflection on the prep from the past six weeks is that I am now able to speed up my timing for each question and dig into questions, gaining a better understanding of each one. I feel that the prep helped me face problems and finish the test on time.
I need to fully dedicate time to focus on math, and I need to stick to these habits.
This course taught me my best learning style as well as gave me an extended attention span in terms of doing work.
I learned that it is very important to look back at what you did wrong because that is where the learning happens. I used to not do that most of the time during school.
I think these past six weeks have been an interesting ride for me. Apart from actually learning different methods of working on math, thinking outside the box, or straight into doing the work, I think I learned a lot about myself that I already knew, but also a lot about myself that I need to change: this being the fact that I must actually work harder than I do now, put in effort, actually put my mind to it, and stop being lazy. In-depth, what I’ve learned is that Mrs. Pashley is robust with her work and explains in depth, especially writing, which has helped me and brought amazing tips from reading that have gotten my score higher. Mr. Singh has taught me a lot more than just doing math in the sense of thinking of different ways or faster ways apart from your calculator.
I have learned a lot of strategies and gotten a lot of practice, which I believe has greatly helped my score. English class has taught me many small tricks and has greatly helped with my understanding of annotating and reading text to get the point, all of which I believe will carry over into the school year and help me in my linguistics classes. Math class has helped with revision of previous knowledge I needed to review prior to taking the SAT and starting the school year. As a result of what I’ve learned in the past six weeks, I believe I’m able to solve problems much more efficiently.
My experience has been positive. This course has provided an environment for me to establish a study regimen that I wouldn’t have had while studying by myself at home. In addition, it helped me brush up on concepts in math and English that I studied a long time ago and didn’t remember. Through strategies and practice, I developed habits that will help with the SAT. It was thorough and organized, and I appreciated the constant feedback and the opportunity to re-evaluate my strengths and weaknesses.
I feel like I have gained a much better grasp on problems and how to solve them. I am now able to efficiently utilize problem-solving in my studies, as well as manage my time much more effectively in whatever I work on.
Over the last six weeks, this SAT prep has helped me tremendously to understand all of the different aspects and small requirements the SAT has. From learning all of the grammar rules to discovering different reading strategies to save time, and thinking outside the box for math problems, these six weeks have helped me become more proficient at the SAT.
I learned how to efficiently approach the questions in order to save time on the exam. The tips and techniques helped me finish questions faster.
I think I have definitely learned a lot during these six weeks. Specifically, I learned how to approach questions and develop better strategies to answer them. Before, I didn’t know what I was doing, but now I know how to make my answers more accurate.
I was able to learn more strategies, especially for reading. For math, I learned how to solve certain types of problems faster. Additionally, the continuous practice helped train my brain.
I feel like it has helped set up a somewhat consistent schedule and exposed me to multiple ways I could attempt questions.
I’ve gotten better at managing my time and not running out of time to finish the math sections.
I feel that this SAT prep helped a lot to improve my score, and it was a great way to find new strategies for approaching different questions in both English and math.
Honestly, this six-week prep was the best possible preparation for the SAT. Not only did my overall SAT score increase, but I learned techniques and tricks to perform the problems faster and more efficiently. Most importantly, I learned how to actually learn rather than just do rote memorization.
I liked how we were able to split the material for learning (i.e., learning certain grammar rules at a time and splitting the math by sections) and then practice questions. It felt quite comprehensive.
I have learned the importance of annotating reading passages and how it can help me better understand them. I also got a refresher on some of the grammar rules that I had forgotten. In math, my algebra skills have improved, and I have a better understanding of the concepts I was weaker on.
The SAT prep is really helpful, and the packets we have for reading and writing are informative. I have focused on improving my math no-calculator score for the past six weeks.
I have improved a lot in my SAT skills. My scores and my endurance for sitting through the three-hour exam have significantly gone up.
I need to focus more on one thing at a time and start filling in the gaps.
I learned how important it is to read critically.
I understood the content that was taught. I believe that this class not only helped me with my preparation for the SAT, but also provided good strategies that improved my overall math skills. I will take some of the tips and tricks learned in this SAT class to my school.
I have learned how to solve problems in more efficient ways. I take the studying and learning habits to school from this class.
Math was done beautifully. I’m at an 800 level because of Mr. Singh.
The instruction was good; I like the way this class is organized, where we do the homework and then ask questions. My math skills have gotten a lot stronger.

Hi IES staff, I was a student who was part of the summer program (August) and initially scored a 1290 on the diagnostic test. As the summer went on, my friends and I …
Hi Kristi, Paarth took the SAT again in October (2023) and scored 1590. Just wanted to send you a note coz in his own words he couldn’t have gotten this score without the help he got at IES. Please pass my thanks to Chris an
