Getting into magnet schools, academies, and private high schools is not easy. Each year, hundreds of students compete for limited seats at schools like Edison Academy Magnet School and Woodbridge Academy Magnet School. Entrance exams test a wide range of skills — from reading comprehension and grammar to algebra, geometry, and data analysis — and students need more than just classroom knowledge to succeed.

That’s where our Academy Entrance and PSAT 8/9 prep workshops come in. These small-group sessions give students the chance to review the most important topics, practice with test-style questions, and learn proven strategies from experienced teachers. The goal is simple: to help your child build confidence, sharpen their skills, and perform their best on exam day.

Program Highlights

• 6-Week Program starting October 11
• English Workshop (6 sessions, 2 hours each): 9:00 – 11:00 AM
• Math Workshop (6 sessions, 2 hours each): 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
• Class Dates: Oct 11, 18, 25 • Nov 2, 16, 23

Students may enroll in one workshop (English or Math) or choose both for complete preparation.

What Students Will Learn

English Workshop

Success on academy entrance exams and the PSAT 8/9 depends heavily on strong reading and language skills. Our English workshop is designed to strengthen critical thinking, comprehension, and writing. Students will:

• Practice reading passages and making inferences, just like on entrance exams and the PSAT 8/9
• Identify central ideas, supporting details, and how transitions connect ideas in a text
• Review grammar rules, verb usage, tenses, and sentence structure to improve writing accuracy
• Expand vocabulary to tackle challenging words in context and build stronger expression
• Develop strategies for answering multiple-choice questions quickly and with confidence

Math Workshop

The math section of academy entrance exams and the PSAT 8/9 challenges students to apply problem-solving skills across multiple areas. Our Math workshop is designed to strengthen core skills and boost speed and accuracy. Students will:

• Review algebra fundamentals, equations, and word problems that appear on entrance exams
• Practice problem solving and data analysis with tables, charts, and graphs
• Strengthen geometry skills, including angles, shapes, and measurement applications
• Work on multi-step problems to build logical reasoning and accuracy under time pressure
• Learn test-taking strategies to approach tricky math questions with confidence
